바흐가 라이프치히 성 토마스 교회의 칸토르로 부임한 해, 즉 1723년 여름에 출판되었던 칸타타 세 작품을 싣고 있는 음반.
 
칸타타 105번은 독일의 바흐 전문 음악학자인 알프레드 뒤르(Alfred Du"rr)가바로크 기독교 예술의 영혼을 가장 위대하게 묘사했던 작품 중의 하나"라고 부르기도 했다. 특히 오보에의 구슬픈 도입 선율이 매우 인상적인 제3곡 소프라노 아리아는, 뒤르의 표현대로, "바흐의 가장 독창적이면서 가장 깊은 인상을 남기는 작품 중의 하나이다".
 
모테트 스타일의 합창으로 시작되는 179번도 동정, 연민, 기도로 가득한 작품인데, 내용은 기독교인의 신앙적 타락을 비판하고 경고한 것이다. 186번은 개정된 칸타타이다. 잘로모 프랑크 (Salomo Franck)의 리브레토로 된 원래의 작품은 강림절 3번째 일요일을 위해 쓰여진 작품이다.
